In this occasion, my first grade students and I tried to make a craft for their religion lesson. There is a symbol in Buddhist which is called Svastika or Swastika. Sometimes, it can be seen appeared in some cartoons or movies especially those talked about historical things. In Oxford online dictionary, it is written that this symbol is used in clockwise form as the emblem of the German Nazi party.
Swastika actually means "well-being" in Buddhist. This symbol is still used as part of decoration in many Buddhism's buildings especially the Vihara (Buddhist monestary). Let's check out the simple steps below to make a Swastika symbol with your beloved kiddos.
Things needed are:
- 6 strips of paper (same sizes, can be in any colour)
- a scissors
- glue
First, stick the 4 strips of paper like in the picture below.
Then, stick the other 2 strips of paper on the 2 sides that still opened. After that, cut half part of each paper that just being sticked.
Third, cut half part of each paper that hasn't been cut to form a shape like in the down picture.
Finally, you will get a nice Swastika symbol ^^
